PNC Moderator
Abbott Smith has been married to his wife Emily for 37 years and they have two daughters. Abbott grew
up in the Episcopal Church and accepted Christ as an adult at the Church of God in 1971. He committed
his life to Christ during his time at Trinity International Baptist Church of Holland. Abbott became
a member of CCCM in 1994. While CCCM had an awesome Children’s program, it was the worship,
teaching and fellowship that made this their church home. Abbott has been involved in the Church
Growth Committee, Nominating Committee, Audit Committee, Transition Committee, Financial Peace
University, Men’s Bible Study and is a current Elder. He also serves on the Board of Directors for Friends
of Christ Foundation, Mount Hermon Christian Camps and Western Seminary. His hope for CCCM is
that we will be that “Light on the Hill” in our community and prays that the PNC will have wisdom and
guidance as God leads us into His next chapter, calling our new pastor.

Kathy Merritt is single and came to Christ through her uncle in 1983. She moved to California for a
new job in 2000. A co-worker recommended CCCM to her. After attending Christmas Eve service and
meeting a few people, she felt the love of the Lord and knew in the deepest part of her heart that this
was where she was to be. Kathy attended Alpha and recommitted her life to Jesus. Kathy is involved in
the Cleansing Stream ministry, works in the nursery, facilitates women’s small groups and is currently
serving as a Deacon. Her vision for CCCM is to see our church become a house of prayer.
Jenni Bales has been married to Alan for 17 years. She first recognized God’s call on her life in church
youth group. Jenni attended Multnomah Bible College with an emphasis on intercultural studies. She
recently graduated from Fuller Theological Seminary with a Masters of Divinity and is working towards
ordination in the San Jose Presbytery. Jenni first came to CCCM in January 2001. She is currently
on church staff as the Spiritual Formation ministry assistant and Small Group ministry leader. She
has participated on the Russian mission team, Prayer team, Discovery group leader, and our Deacon
ministry. Jenni’s prayer for CCCM is to be known for our love for God and our neighbors and that we
are a church that is passionate about making disciples of all nations and are people of discernment and
compassion.
